6 Tips To Achieve Maximum Comfort At Home

As winter begins to set in, we are beginning to have more appreciation for comfort and cosiness at home, whether you find this in front of a fire, under a blanket watching Netflix or the Mnet Sunday movie, we all have our way of getting into that zone.

Although these weeks of winter freeze drag on and on, there is a joy to be found in these moments. The thing is, South Africans do not like the cold, however, in true South African nature, we find the best out of every situation.

When it's cold and windy outside, the only thing we want to do is cuddle up with a blanket, and watch a movie, this is especially tempting when working at home and that favourite blanket and couch is waiting for you in the other room. But when the time comes, and we can turn off the computer, close our email application and find that comfy spot, and we can channel that inner cosiness addiction, here are a few tips to make it that much better.

1. Create a mood

Candles and lighting are essentials to getting into the mood. They not only add a warming, soft light, but they can also create a wonderful scent in your home.

2. Turn on the oven and get the whisk out

Who remembers the banana bread craze in the first lockdown? We do. And we did it because it made us feel good and cosy inside. Let the inner Gordon Ramsey come out, go through your favourite cookbook, choose something that will give you extra brownie points with your partner (pun intended) and make a moment out of it. Your home will be filled with good vibes and awesome smells.

3. Add some texture

Create an inviting space in your home with plush pillows and fluffy blankets. Cover your surfaces with as many feel-good materials as possible to make an inviting space you can't wait to jump into.

4. Get nostalgic

Do you remember those family game nights that turned into laughter and good times, and sometimes fights because of Monopoly? We miss those moments, and the younger generations are consumed with screens and online games. Bring back the old days, pull out 30 Seconds, Pictionary and other old-school games that are sure to bring out the inner child for some family bonding time.

5. Embrace the winter style

This is a double whammy, winters styles at home and out? Yes, please! Get out those stylish jackets, long sleeve shirts and flaunt your style to the world, because you can! It's cold. And when you get home, throw off all those flashy clothes and trade them for your comfy clothes, sweats, hoodie, thick socks and slippers. Movie night anyone?

6. Perfect your winter warming drinks

There's nothing better than boiling the kettle and getting the hot chocolate out. But who says it has to be non-alcoholic? Kalua coffee anyone? And that's the best part of perfecting your own winter warming drink, is that it can be anything that you want, something that you can look forward to at the end of every day!
